3 Out of 5!

29 Feb

I just found out today that I can add Hofstra to my list of acceptances! While their funding isn’t as attractive as the other 2 schools, it’s still nice to know that 3 places want me there 🙂

Still pretty anxious, as I still have to officially hear back from 5 more places… *le sigh*

My goal of having at least one owl item in each room of my apartment has now been accomplished.

Some Words of Wisdom for Lent [photo]

21 Feb

The Lenten season is upon us! Personally, I think Lent has become a load of nonsense. 40 days of Catholic guilt poking at you and making you feel like a failure when you realize that you gave up hope on day 3. However, I have much more hope this year. I like to think of Lent as a time for personal development instead of self-deprication. I had great success with 2009 Lent where I increased my gym time and decreased both my sugar intake and pants size. I’m hoping that 2012 will be as successful. 🙂

I took Fat Tuesday a little too literally and ingested pretty much everything that existed in my fridge today (a la Liz Lemon). Tomorrow is a new day and I’m ready to continue to train for the Broad Street Run, SIOP 5K, and Clean Air 5K. Yes, you read that right – 3 races. I’ve already planned out my gym schedule and stocked up on quarters for the large amount of laundry I’ll be doing with all of the dirty gym clothes in my future.

It’s going to be a great Lent. 🙂

PhD, Here I Come

15 Feb

So of the 11 PhD programs I’ve applied to, I’ve heard back from three. While only two have been positive, I’m still really excited! I have options!

I had a phone interview today with another school that has me on their short list, so hopefully I’ll get a “thumbs up” from them too 🙂

Officially, I have until April 15th (2 months from today!!) to make a final decision, but I’m getting really anxious that I haven’t heard a peep from any of the other schools. However, I guess I don’t have a choice – I’ll just have wait until I get that email…

And now, a word from Liz Lemon:

I’m Back, Nerds!

13 Feb

So after completing all of my PhD applications and starting my new position (which is awesome!), I’ve finally found some time to write another post. It’s been too long, Internet. Something else that has taken up my time is the ancient art of watching reruns. For years, syndication has enriched the lives of people who watch tv shows and given a break to the writers who need a vacation. Comedy Central has started airing 30 Rock from the beginning and I was so eager to hop on that train into Liz-Lemon-y-bliss. I want to be Liz Lemon when I grow up, with less of a cat-lady feel.

Recently, my cable bill went up due to the cable company being greedy jerks (blerg.), so I cancelled my cable package and just kept my internet. Instead of watching my tv – which just sits awkwardly in the middle of my living room now – I have both Netflix and Hulu Plus. Both are $8/month and I can watch whatever I want, whenever I want, as long as I have internet (and they both have Android apps!). Netflix is my new best friend because it has 5 – *5!!!!* seasons of 30 Rock that I have been watching religiously.

I think the moral of this story is:

  1. Cable is dumb – online tv is the way of the future
  2. Who doesn’t want to be Liz Lemon? – I dare you to say otherwise 🙂
