Throwback Thursday: “Down On The Corner” by Creedence Clearwater Revival

16 Aug

“Tap your feet” indeed, CCR.

And, of course, in my true former-a-cappella-member fashion, here is Streetcorner Symphony from “The Sing Off” performing a cover:

Bonus Throwback Thursday: “Short Skirt/Long Jacket” by Cake

9 Aug

I’M GOIN’ ROGUE! A *bonus* throwback!!

I’m doing some data analysis (::pushes up nerd glasses::), listening to what is arguably the best Pandora station I’ve ever created (“A Punk” by Vampire Weekend, if you’re curious) and this song came on.

Holy sh*t, I love Cake – the dessert and the band. There is just something about their music that just makes you feel good. There’s a trumpet, a kickin’ bass line, and also, as with the last throwback, this video is pretty entertaining. The people listening to the track have some funny comments.

Therefore, I submit to you: try to listen to this song and not be in a good mood. I dare you 🙂

Throwback Thursday: “Poison” by Bell Biv DeVoe

Throwback Thursday mothercluckers!

I decided to take a request for this week’s Throwback – my sister suggested this hip-hop classic.

I’ll give you a minute to stop dancing, because I *know* that’s what you’re doing when you listen to this. Doing the “running man”? The “sprinkler”? Maybe another stereotypical 90’s dance move? Ok, maybe you’re just bobbing your head and tapping your toe because you’re at work – that’s what I’ve resorted to here. I have been guilty of breaking out these dance moves (and the ones they do in the video) at a party or two when a song like this comes on.

This video is hilarious – I love how the band is green-screened on top of girls walking around on the street. The lyrics are even giggle-worthy: “Never trust a big butt and a smile.” Also, how did that guy get on top of that basketball net?

Please enjoy this 90’s dance tune and have a thrillin’ Thursday!

Throwback Thursday: Bonnie Raitt Cover Double Play

2 Aug

Another Thursday, another throwback, homies. And, it’s a double feature!

First, we’re gonna slow jam it this week with a cover of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. This song is absolutely gorgeous: when Miss Bonnie herself sings it, you can really feel everything that she’s going through (and if you’ve ever felt it yourself, you know it ain’t fun). The Hyannis Sound is one of my favorite all-male a cappella groups. They are comprised of current or recently-graduated undergraduate students from universities all over the country. Each summer, they get together and tour the Cape Cod area lending their velvety voices to anyone who will listen. And believe me, people listen. The one time I saw them live, the place was pretty much full.

The second act of our TT double play is “Something to Talk About” as performed by the NYU N’Harmonics. Fun fact: I was at this very performance and I remember it being *phenomenal*. This video was taken at the 2007 ICCA Northeast Quarterfinals in Hartford, CT. They won the quarterfinal – big surprise, right? I know I’ve mentioned the N’Harmz before, so I won’t belabor the topic and I will let you get back to watching these videos, because they are, indeed, awesome.

Have a fabulous Thursday, friends!
